Department of Architecture has marked a progression
in the history of Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology which
has been established in 2009 under the Faculty of Architecture & Planning.
The Department of Architecture has been established alongside the existing
engineering education. The Department of Architecture is committed to
advance architectural education through different programs and researches.
The department continuously endeavors to instill in the students a firm
intellectual and professional base. The course curricula are designed
to bring out the best in students aspiring to enter the profession. The

Statements from the Head
The Department of Architecture is founded
on strong principles of multidisciplinary collaboration and respect for
experimentation, rooted in social, cultural, and environmental values.
We are trying to reflect in our innovative teaching, scholarly research,
critical design inquiry, and synthetic practice. These principles will
remain a strong reinforcement of our school, while supporting our incessant
exploration of emerging theory and knowledge in design thinking, innovative
materials and technologies, digital design and fabrication, and sustainability.
Our undergraduate program covers fields of design and design theory, history
of architecture and urbanism, building science and sustainability, structures
and construction, social and cultural processes, environmental design
in developing country like ours, digital design and virtual environments,
urban design, and visual studies. We are interested in the entire life
cycle of the building process, from conceptualization, through design
and representation, craft and construction, and the performance of both
constructed and virtual environments. We teach students to imagine, question,
experiment, innovate, build, and reflect. Our curriculum is designed to
foster independent thinking and to give students a balance of foundational
knowledge and skills, with flexibility to follow their passions. We look
forward to a busy and productive year of continued excellence. The Department
of Architecture is closely linked with other departments, notably engineering.
All of the Department's activities are accommodated on one site, including:
design studio spaces, lecture and classrooms, workshop and IT facilities,
research offices, staff offices and administration. The Department adopts
a range of teaching methods and covers a wide range of topics from sustainable
design to cultural studies.
