Title: Challenges and expectations in academia and business industry
Abstract: Bangladesh has seen a huge development in almost every sector over the last decade. Bangladesh's economy is the second fastest growing economy with a growth rate of 7.1% according to IMF. The number of universities, technical and business institutions has grown. The high-tech industries and business are coming up. Unfortunately, we haven't seen any partnership developing between academia and industry in Bangladesh, which is essential for a healthy growth of society, business and industry. This talk will focus on strategic linkages between academia and business industry to improve quality, foster innovation and entrepreneurship, enhance employability, and boosting socio-economic development.



Biography: Mr ASM Abdul Motin graduated from the Air Force academy in the flying branch and was recognized as the best Flight Cadet for general service training. During his career in Bangladesh Air Force he gained valuable knowledge by completing a number of courses both in Bangladesh and abroad and soon became a VVIP cleared operational pilot. During his tenure in Bangladesh Air Force he flew a number of both Bangladesh and foreign Head of State / Government. He did lot of operational flying all around the globe during his tenure in the Bangladesh Air Force. His biggest operations can arguably be the one he did for the UN peace keeping mission which took place after the end of Iraq-Kuwait War in the Gulf. During the time of nation-wide disastrous flood in 1988 and the devastating cyclone in 1991 he carried out operational missions to support the relief operation, causality evacuation as well as the search and rescue operation.

ASM Abdul Motin displaying from early boyhood his rare quality of leadership in a persuasive, convincing and logical manner earned the opportunity at the age of sixteen to represent Bangladesh in Japan where he got the leadership training from Youth Red Cross Society. He achieved the distinction of receiving medals from Noble laureate Mother Teresa for his performance in National Youth Red Cross Camp, his outstanding role of putting up the arguments made him the best performer in the debate competition. He has authored three books. He has extensively travelled in Asia, Europe and North America as business leader and delivered talks.

In 1999, Mr Motin voluntarily retired from the Air Force as Squadron Leader in order to pursue a career in business in the global market. Mr Motin is now the Chairman of GRAM Ltd. (Global Resource Augmentation and Management Ltd), a company started in 2009 with a vision for partnering the nation in socioeconomic development comprising a number of strategic business units, namely, GRAMer Alo, GRAMer Manush, GRAM Aviation, GRAM Consultancy, GRAM Waste Management, and GRAM Expo. Headquarter of GRAM is based at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka and branch office in Bangkok, Thailand.
