Welcome to the Department of Mathematics at Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET). We started our journey in the year of 1968. Over the last five decades, we have grown our expertise and competence in the engineering-related curriculum and core mathematics research. The subject of Mathematics has numerous contributions to designing the Mathematical Model of modern Engineering problems. With the help of basic Mathematical knowledge, students are able to understand the logical system in their application sectors to tackle the real world problems. The primary focus of our curriculum is to impart mathematical technical know-how to students, promote their problem solving skills and innovation of new technologies.
    We have a strong postgraduate level, we offer MPhil and Ph.D. in Mathematics by research. The main goal of this program is to produce quality researchers in Mathematics. The sanctioned students’ strengths of MPhil and Ph.D. by research are 10 and 5 respectively each year. However, it varies with the quality candidates. At present, the department has 08 Ph.D. and 20 MPhil scholars. Students are mostly faculty members from different colleges and universities carry out their postgraduate studies. Besides this, our department managed several undergraduate courses in the different engineering departments at CUET.
  The postgraduate course contents are periodically updated for introducing new Mathematical concepts and logical developments. Postgraduate students are encouraged to undertake various research projects. Our department maintains active research groups for carrying out collaborative and interdisciplinary research. We have state of the art research facilities to support our academic programs and research. Funding is available for research from government and universities' internal sources for students and faculties.
    The Department of Mathematics established a sophisticated Simulation Lab supported by the World Bank through the University Grand Commission (UGC) under the project HEQEP (Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project). The Simulation Lab unveils new opportunities for graduate students to carry on their research with modern computational software in Mathematical Modeling and Simulation.   Our departments’ faculty members are always careful about teaching and research. Faculty members have excellent academic credentials and are highly regarded. They have been conferred with many prestigious awards at national and international levels. Several faculty members serve on the editorial boards of national and international journals, review technical articles for journals on a regular basis, and organize international symposia and conferences.
