Welcome to the Department of Urban & Regional Planning
As the geographical location of the institution is in a hilly region, the scope of planning and its application has been widened to new dimension that distinguishes unique identity from other institutions. Tourism and Recreational Planning in hilly region like Chittagong, the commercial capital of Bangladesh will contribute a lot to national economy.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning (DURP) has been established in 2009 under the faculty of Architecture and Planning, offering Bachelor degree in Urban and Regional Planning. In view of meeting the growing demand of planners in government and nongovernment organizations, universities and research institutes, DURP has introduced this bachelor program. Under this program 30 students are enrolled each year. At least 159 credit hours must be completed within 4 academic years to fulfill the entire requirement of this degree.
DURP at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) is primarily concerned with the development planning at the urban, rural, regional and local levels. Besides this program encourages its students to develop specializations within the field of urban planning, rural planning, transportation planning, housing and real estate development, disaster management and environmental planning, tourism and recreation planning and to expand their intellectual horizons through training in the related fields of architecture, landscape planning, civil engineering, social science, public policy and political science. In Project/Thesis work, provision of analyzing any urban, rural or regional problems with major findings and recommendation concerning sustainable planning perspective is exposed for all the fellows.
At present the academic program is successfully running with 15 (Fifteen) teachers and 4 (Four) adjunct faculty who provide their best expertise level for the fellow student. Besides, department hire specialized and experienced personnel from professional field to teach the fellow students as guest teacher. The Department is persistent in its efforts to improve its research facilities to meet the growing technological challenges confronting the country.
