About Myself

Dr Yunus Ahmed is currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry.  He received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree from the Australian Centre for Water and Environmental Biotechnology (ACWEB) under the School of Chemical Engineering, The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia. His research title was "Simultaneous removal of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, antibiotic resistance genes and micropollutants by using Photo-Fenton processes". It was an advanced level tertiary treatment process for Drinking or Municipal water. Prior to this degree, Ahmed received his Master of Science (MSc. Eng) degree in Chemical and Process Engineering from the National University of Malaysia (UKM), Malaysia.  He received two more Master’s degrees [M.Phil in Chemistry from BUET and M.Eng in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering (ACCE) from Islamic University (IU), Kushtia]. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in ACCE from IU, Bangladesh. He is doing research in a multidisciplinary area, especially the removal of emerging contaminants (Biological and Chemical); Quality, Control, and Maintainance of Water Treatment Plant (WTP), Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP ); Reuse and resource recovery from waste/wastewater streams, as well as drug discovery. He has published around 30 fully refereed journal papers on vastly different fields of Chemical Engineering, Water, Environment, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He is the Top 10 researcher in the world in the inactivation of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria (ARB) and its Genes (ARG) from water and wastewater. Yunus is strongly dedicated to teaching and learning, with extensive teaching experience in various areas of Chemical/Environmental/ Bioprocess Engineering. He is a reviewer for more than 5 international journals. He is a member of the Australian Water Association (AWA) and Bangladesh Chemical Society.
